New Delhi, Nov 22 (ANI): Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly was lavish in his praise for veteran leg-spinner Anil Kumble, who made his debut as Test captain today against Pakistan at the Ferozshah Kotla stadium here.

Kumbles first day as captain was fantastic. He handled the bowlers and the field placements very well, Ganguly said while addressing the media at the end of the opening days play of the first Test match.

And more importantly, he made me bowl 12 overs, the Kolkata southpaw added with grin on his face.

He also lauded Indian bowlers efforts to put Pakistan on the back foot after losing the toss. The visitors finished day I on 210-8, but India had the chance to bowl them put well with the score of 175.

“It was a good wicket to bat on but we bowled fantastically well, in the right areas and got great results. The ball did a bit in the morning because of the moisture, but it got better during the afternoon,” said Ganguly, who took the important wicket of Mohammad Yousuf.

Responding to a query as to whether there was any pressure on him with the in-form Yuvraj Singh was knocking on the Test door, Ganguly categorically denied it, saying, I don’t think so.

I have had a brilliant 10-11 months since my comeback, and I have been one of the better performers in the Test version.

“Yuvraj has done tremendously well for India in the One-Dayers and is in sublime nick at the moment, and is a genuine match-winner for us. It feels good that he is pushing for a place in the Test side, Ganguly said.

He went on to say that such situations keep a player on the toe and also push to perform well. Indias most successful Test captain added that 10 years down the calendar Yuvraj might be in a similar situation. (ANI)
