New Delhi, April 5 (IANS) The wicket at the Ferozeshah Kotla again hogged the limelight for wrong reasons with Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Anil Kumble saying that the pitch was “not ideal” for Twenty20 matches.
Kumble, the losing team’s captain, said that the toss play a crucial role here.
“Toss is very crucial on such a track. I think 185 was too much for us to chase in this kind of wicket. It is not the ideal wicket for Twenty20,” Kumble said his team’s loss to Daredevils by 37 runs.
The wicket was slow and low with bit of a turn and certainly not conducive to shot making. It became more difficult for the team batting second to score runs.
It was Daredevils’ third straight victory at home here. They were lucky to win the toss in all the three occasion and put up the par total of 180-plus and the bowlers did the rest to defend the total.
“We have been winning the toss here and that has been lucky for us,” Daredevils skipper Gautam Gambhir agreed.
The wicket at Feroze Shah Kotla was at the centre of a major controversy when the fifth and final one day international between Sri Lanka and India in December was called off after 23.3 overs due to a dangerous pitch.
Match referee Alan Hurst classified the pitch unfit, the worst of six possible categories, attracting a suspension of the status to host international matches for a period between 12-24 months.
Subsequently, the International Cricket Council barred Kotla from hosting international matches for one year.
