Kolkata, May 25 (IANS) Legendary German goalkeeper Oliver Kahn drove his fans delirious with joy with his Bengali here Sunday. The Bayern Munich veteran, who is here to play his farewell match against Mohun Bagan, spoke in Bengali while inaugurating a local football tournament
“Ami Oliver Kahn, tournament udbodhon korchi (I Oliver Kahn declare the tournament open),” he said, much to the delighted surprise of the sizeable gathering.
His words drew a huge round of applause from thousands of schoolchildren, who had gathered to watch Kahn and his team Bayern Munich at the Kolkata Police grounds here.
Kahn’s presence was electrifying and created an euphoric environment. The players of the Bayern Munich team were presented with mementos by city police commissioner Goutam Chakraborty.
