Vancouver, British Columbia, Feb 26, (THAINDIAN NEWS) South Korean figure skater Kim Yu-Na created a new record on Thursday at the figure skating long program when she clinched the gold medal to became her country’s first Olympic champion in the event. The 19 year old reigning world champion scored an amazing 228.56 points which enabled her to win the highest reward in the Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
The much acclaimed skater displayed a marvelous performance and went on to score 150.06 in her free programme to reach the record breaking score that she managed to achieve. The astounding score that Kim Yu-Na was successful in gaining left even her extremely amazed as she seemed to be visibly delighted to have accomplished the almost unbelievable feat. Although the skater is known to be highly consistent with her impressive performances, this was a performance that left even her stunned. In order to win the gold medal, the South Korean skater had to beat her top rival Japan’s Mao Asada, who grabbed the silver medal as well as home favorite Joannie Rochette, who took home the bronze medal.
However, it was surely Kim Yu-Na’s amazing feat that turned out to be the highlight of the event as she completely ruled the Pacific Coliseum with her elegant and beautiful moves during the figure skating event. While reacting to her performance, the 2009 Four Continents champion expressed her disbelief at the score that she had accomplished. Although Kim Yu-Na seemed to be completely in control of her emotions during all her past appearances, winning the gold medal was indeed so special that she could not hold back tears after her performance concluded.
