200px-kim_clijsters_cropOn Sunday, at the Arthur Ashe Stadium, Kim Clijsters progressed on with her remarkable victory of 6-0,0-6, 6-4 to the quarterfinals of the U.S.Open 2009 Championships, beating the haughty Venus Williams, in the 4th round.

Williams had initially been obstructed from playing well at the tournament, owing to her bad knee, which caused her evident trouble in serving. She just managed to pull through the first round of the U.S.Open against 47th ranked Vera Dushevina last Monday at Flushing Meadows.

In Clijsters’ tussle with No.3 seeded Venus Williams on Sunday, the former No.1 recorded 27 unforced errors. Clijsters who became a mother in 2008 to her daughter Jada, is the only mother to have won a Grand Slam match since Evonne Goolagong who did that at Wimbledon 1980.

“It feels like I’m starting all over, and I have that hunger of when I was 15, 16 again. And it’s a good feeling to have.” Complacency and an overall buoyant family life is just on of the favorable backdrops against which the win has come for Clijsters, irrespective of her 2 year layoff from tennis that seems to have only made her more determined to achieve.

Aged 26 ,Clijsters is less aged than 4 of the top-10 players currently. She is reported to have trained vigorously in Wall,N.J. where she has bought herself a home with American husband, Brian Lynch.

Clijsters has won th U.S.Open singles title in the year 2005, and won 34 WTA singles title, and a total of 11 WTA double titles. For two times she has been the singles runner-up at the French Open and been a runner-up on the Australian Open.
