medium_legarrette-blount-090709Kermit Washington has been in the shoes of Oregon’s LeGarrette Blount, the player who has messed up his image after he got into a brawl with Boise State’s Byron Hout and got suspended from participation in NFL games, after team coach Chip Kelly officially punished him.

The former NBA star Washington had seriously hurt Rudy Tomjanovich in 1977, and had some great advice for Bount. Washington commented on the his maligned low-profile saying, “…he has maybe ,70 more years of life left. He’s got to reinvent himself.”

After Washington’s NBA coaching career suffered a blow, in the same fashion as is the NFL career of Blount now, the former turned his focus to humanitarian actions in Africa. Tomjanovich , a player for Rockets, moved on to coach in the NBA reportedly. Washington currently associates himself with serving the NBA Players Assocaition. He offered saying, that Blount must not try to escape the situation by retorting “he said this, and he said that” since at the end of the day people respect you when you accept your shortcomings, and show some veracity and courage in dealing with the controversy.

The decision to cut off Blount for a whole season was taken in a joint conference with 1st year Pacific-10 Conference commissioner Larry Scott and 1st year university president Richard Lariviere.

Washington told Blount to accept things like teammates withdrawing from him, fans outraged at him, since his action will eclipse his virtues completely for now. He stressed that the only thing the player needs to do for now is to earnestly feel apologetic rather than clarify his position.
