Georgetown, March 16, (THAINDIAN NEWS) On Sunday, as Katie Spotz reached Georgetown, Guyana, in South America, she became the youngest person to row the Atlantic. Katie Spotz completed the task in 70 days 5 hours and 22 minutes. The 22 year old is also the first person from America to complete the rowing of the Atlantic alone. Katie Spotz, according to reports, had a previous experience of rowing alone for 40 miles on the Lake Erie. She started her journey from west of Africa and ended it by reaching the North eastern part of South America.
On reaching the land after more than two months, Katie Spotz was greeted by her father and brother along with a welcome party. She also got to taste some fresh watermelon after two months as her diet all these days consisted of energy bars and Frozen dried food. Katie Spotz, who had to row 2,817 mile (4,500 kilometers) suffered from soars and bruise and rashes. She had rowed around 10 hours per day during these 70 days.
Katie Spotz’s father reportedly said that he was worried about his daughter for all these days. He not only feared of the sharks but also of the pirates who are quite active in the Atlantic. However, the real danger hit Katie Spotz when she was only 50 nautical miles away from the coast. The tracking device caught fire and had to be extinguished by the fire extinguisher on board. Katie Spotz, on reaching the land said that apart from the lack of sleep from which she had suffered during the whole trip, no other thing has bothered her much.
