Jammu, Feb 24 (IANS) An international ski championship is being organised in snow-clad Gulmarg resort from March 1, Jammu and Kashmir’s tourism minster said Tuesday.
The higher reaches of Gulmarg are covered with a thick white blanket and the slopes there are ideal for skiing. “This will help us showcase Kashmir as a big tourist destination,” Tourism Minister Nawang Rigzin Jora told reporters.

Several international skiers will be taking part in the championship, the minister said.

He said the state would also organise a global derby competition from March 6 hosting disciplines like Alpine and Snowboarding Freestyle downhill.

Teams from Australia and Canada would be among those taking part in the derby competition.

He hoped that the tourists would visit the state in larger numbers this year.
