Karl and Smith: a love-hate relationshipMay 26th, 2009 - 9:10 pm ICT by GD
J. R. Smith can really drive his coach Gorge Karl crazy. That is the latest news doing the rounds in the basketball arena. And why not? Smith had his way with the Lakers and played a great game. His coach has reasons aplenty to absolutely love this player. After the game with Lakers, the fiery coach couldn’t help gushing about Smith as he said, “Love him”. Denver won the Game 4 of the Western Conference finals on Monday night 120-101, and Smith had a great role in bringing about his team’s victory. The game was played at the Pepsi Center.
Karl’s love for Smith was only further established as he affectionately added after a pause, “And I hate him.” Karl knows only too well that Smith is a key player. He can swing the game his way. In the Monday game Smith not only made great early passes, he also has a great penetration capacity. Smith is one player whom the Lakers cannot easily account for or control. Smith himself was reported saying that anything but a win would have left him disappointed. He said that, “I would be upset if somebody is out there tearing us up and hitting threes and showboating. But that’s the way we play. That’s the way the Denver Nuggets play. We play with emotion. We play with adrenaline.”
Smith had been fouled for his trash talking in Game 3, but now with the crucial win all scores seems to have been settled. For the time being at least!!
