Abu Dhabi, Jan 17 (IANS) A sizzling five-under 67 highlighted by five birdies on the back nine of the course helped star Indian golfer Jyoti Randhawa rise to tied 20th midway through the third round of the Abu Dhabi Open here Saturday.Randhawa, who had earlier rounds of 71 and 70 and was placed 40th has improved 20 places. He is now eight-under for three rounds.
Jeev Milkha Singh also had a steady two-under 70 and stayed in tied 40th place, where he was after the second round. Jeev shot 74 and 67 in his first two rounds.
The third Indian to make the cut Shiv Kapur struggled to five-over 77 for the third round and was placed tied 72nd. He shot 72 and 70 in his first two rounds.
S.S.P. Chowrasia, despite a three-under 69 in second round, missed the cut by one shot. The cut came at one-under 143 and Chowrasia was even par 144.
Randhawa, starting on the 10th, birdied his first hole and then added further birdies on 13th and 14th and again on 17th and 18th. He then fired his sixth birdie on the second, but then dropped shots on seventh and ninth but also had a birdie on eighth. In all he had seven birdies and two bogeys.
Englishman Paul Casey was the leader through 13 holes as he was seven-under in the third round and was 17-under for the tournament. He was three shots clear of Graeme Storm, who was three-under through 13 holes. Martin Kaymer, the defending champion, was third at five-under through 15 holes and 14-under for the tournament.
