Junior Hockey Nationals: Semi-finals set to be exciting affair

Pune, Dec 20 (IANS) Powerhouse Punjab will face Orissa while surprise package Jharkhand take on Haryana in the semi-finals of the first Junior Hockey National Championship at the Balewadi Sports Complex here Wednesday.

Punjab and Orissa looked the most convincing in their quarter-finals and would like to play the same brand of hockey. Jharkhand, who pulled off an upset win over Madhya Pradesh, will look to put another determined and gritty performance.

Punjab look a most compact side, who play the vibrant brand of hockey that the state is known for with captain Talwinder Singh controlling the game from the middle.

The men to look out for in the semi-finals will be Mandeep Singh of Punjab and Malak Singh of Haryana. Both of these strikers are in great form, scoring fourteen and nine goals, respectively.
