Today is the day that the world is going to celebrate as the “Go Skateboarding Day 2009″. It gives everyone all the more reason to take out that skateboard off the shelf and go about frolicking all over the town. The timing could not have been any better too; this being the peak of the summer, all those who are bored to tears with sitting and lazying around, will have an option to do something fun.
June 21st is the day that marks the summer solstice in the northern hemisphere and the winter solstice in the southern hemisphere. This is also the day on which there is the longest hours of sunlight in the northern hemisphere and for the shortest span in the southern hemisphere. Now, the fun factor on this day is just upped a notch with the help of the Skateboarding celebrations.
Though die hard skateboard lovers do it everyday, what is going to be so special about this day is that, it will add to the celebratory feel. Unlike regular days, this ‘official’ day they can join in and be a part of the millions or more who get together in a festive mood, to enjoy the sport that is so much loved world wide. It gives skateboard addicts all the reasons they need to give up the television, the video games and just enjoy the pure thrill of flying down on the skateboard.
Since 2003, today is celebrated as the “Go skateboarding Day”, which has been flagged off by the International Association of Skateboard Companies (IASC) in an attempt to promote the sport in public.
