Juan Manuel Marquez Holds WBA And WBO Lightweight Titles After Saturday Night Win

Las Vegas, Aug 1, (THAINDIAN NEWS) On Saturday night, Juan Manuel Marquez managed to retain his WBA and WBO lightweight titles after the unanimous decision (116-112, 118-110 and 117-111) went in his favor. The win that came against Juan Diaz has boosted the confidence of the player who declared that he wants to go for a third fight with Philippines’ Manny Pacquiao. The fight that took place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in front of an enthusiastic crowd of 8,383 people saw Juan Manuel Marquez come up with some strong moves and punches.
The Juan Manuel Marquez Vs Juan Diaz fight was the first of Juan Manuel Marquez after his defeat against Floyd Mayweather in September 2009. However, from the very beginning of the fight, Juan Manuel Marquez was in a mood to inflict some heavy uppercuts on Juan Diaz. While Juan Diaz made some good adjustments and bruised his opponent’s right eye, Juan Manuel Marquez went for uppercuts with the left hand. However, the best shot of Juan Manuel Marquez came towards the end of the fourth round with 1:55 minutes left in it. The shot left Juan Diaz staggering on the ring and battle to get a lead in the next few round of the game. Although the shot failed to demand a submission from Juan Diaz, it was enough to change the types of Juan Diaz’ attacking shots for the rest of the game. Juan Manuel Marquez was able to outland Juan Diaz with 288 punches while the latter managed only 155 punches.
After his defeat, Juan Diaz said that he had planned to go for a more measured fight but his plans were thwarted by Juan Manuel Marquez. However, he maintained that he had fought the “best fight I could”.
