According to the suggested reports, Huan Diaz has reportedly defied Pauli Malignaggi in a 12-round unanimous decision on Saturday to win the NABO junior welter-weight championship.
Diaz, who is reportedly a native of Houston, showed sheer determination and will power as he fought the last ten rounds with a cut in his eye. Diaz had an upper hand over Malignaggi as the former was fighting in front of his home crowd. Every punch that Diaz landed were welcomed with huge round of applauses and cheers from the viewers. Malignaggi believes that the added advantage that Diaz had, swayed the mood of the judges who according to Malignaggi went with the audience’s choice.
The scorecards were 118-110, 116-112 and 115-113 in favor of Diaz. Makignaggi who was utterly disappointed with this decision of the judges termed the ruling as a “ridiculous” one and claimed for a rematch in New York city, his hometown. Diaz, after the victory was literally overwhelmed as he ran to the four corners of the ring and greeted the cheering fans with a salute, after the decision was announced. “I don’t like my fans to see me getting hit like that and making my face swell up. I know am better than that,” said Diaz as the win marked some sort of a come back match of his after being knocked out by Juan Manuel Marquez at the Toyota Center in February.
Malignaggi, who cried foul over the decision reportedly said, “I had told you guys that I had to deal with the politics. This state never gives a fair shake to anyone in a home town fight. I thought I out-boxed him (Diaz) and won.” Diaz welcomed a re-match with Malignaggi who claimed for a re-match that is going to be held in his home town.
