Laredo, Aug 18, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Jose Canseco, a former outfielder and designated hitter of the Major League Baseball is back on field. The 46-year-old Jose Canseco had signed a contract with an independent south Texas minor-league team. The former player was introduced to media sources as a member of the Laredo Broncos team. Laredo Broncos is one of the six teams in the United Baseball league. Jose Casenco has maintained that he would not only play as a designated hitter for the Laredo Broncos but also serve as a pitcher and a bench coach for the team. The player will be wearing the uniform of the team in the remaining six games of this season. The player wore the team uniform on Monday night against Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings.
Although on Monday night Jose Canseco did not start the game, he took the field in the sixth innings and batted the third pitch of the at-bat to left-center field. After his homer, Jose Canseco maintained that his plan for his debut game was only to get back into the game, “in whatever way, shape and form”. He added that although he is not sure how well he would be able to perform physically at this age as he had not played at this level for a long time, he will definitely try to put his best effort.
During his former Major League Baseball career, Jose Canseco had hit 462 home runs in 17 major league seasons. He was the AL Rookie of the Year in 1986 and after his fabulous 43 homers and 40 stolen bases he was declared the MVP in 1988.
