LONDON (BNO NEWS) — The Football Association on Friday decided to strip John Terry of the England captaincy after media reports over an alleged affair with French model Vanessa Perroncel, it said in a statement.

“After much thought, I have made the decision that it will be best for me to take the captaincy away from John Terry,” England Manager Fabio Capello said in a brief statement. The decision to sack him was taken during a brief meeting.

Capello praised Terry’s work for the team, and said he displayed “extremely positive behaviour” as captain. “However, I have to take into account other considerations and what is best for all of the England squad.”

Vanessa Perroncel first reacted to the news on the British news channel Sky News, which first broke the news via sources. She looked visibly shocked and shook her head. “Oh my God,” said Perroncel, who had earlier refused money from media to give her side of the story.
