joelJune 29, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Ace Detroit Tigers’ reliever Joel Zumaya was seriously injured during a pitch to Delmon Young in the match against Minnesota Twins on Monday. The player looked in pain immediately after throwing the call. His reaction and collapse to the ground stopped the other players in their track and made them rush towards him. Joel Zumaya remained on the ground in what seemed like excruciating pain for the baseball player. He was helped off the field by the trainers Kevin Rand and Doug Teter. Catcher Gerrard Laird said that he heard a little pop sound when Joel Zumaya threw the ball. He said that injury looked really bad.

Joel Zumaya has reportedly hurt his right elbow during the throw. The extent of the injury has not yet been revealed but according to the manager Jim Leyland, it is useless for him to make speculations about the damage but he added that it does not look good. He said that he felt sick to the stomach for the injury to one of his key players. He also said that there was no indication of any problem with the pitcher even before the night of the game. He however added that he calls every pitch a pitcher’s potential final pitch. With throws that go past the 100 mph mark, pitching in baseball has become a dangerous activity.

Joel Zumaya has always been plagued by injuries in his career. In spite of his good record he has not been able to pitch in more than 40 innings in a year. His latest injury might rule him out of the entire season and that could be an issue for the Detroit Tigers who won the crucial tie on Monday.
