tributeMar 17, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Joannie Rochette will be remembered by the crowd who watched this year’s Winter Olympics that was held in Vancouver for more reasons than one. For one, she had been the winner of a bronze medal in figure skating. She will be remembered more as she had taken part in the event despite hearing the news of her mother’s death. Therese Rochette had passed away suddenly after having suffered a heart attack even while the Olympics were in progress, less than three days before Joannie Rochette was due to take part in the big event. Now, Joannie Rochette is all set to pay a tribute to her mother through the sport she excels in.

It has been reported that Joannie Rochette would be taking part in the show “Thin Ice,” a performance she would be dedicating to her late mother. Initially, the International Skating Union had refused to allow her to be part of the show, adhering to their strict rules which state that no skater should be allowed to take part in a show involving Olympic style skating if he or she drops out of a major tournament.

Just prior to her request to be part of the “Thin Ice” tour, Joannie Rochette had withdrawn her name from the National Championships, stating physical and mental inability and unpreparedness. However, the International Skating Union later reconsidered their decision and granted her permission, keeping in mind the uniqueness of the request and the situation. In her tribute, the skater would be performing to “Vole” by Celine Dion, who was the favorite musical star of her mother.
