Jim Thorpe Released From Prison

Jim ThorpeJan 18, (THAINDIAN NEWS) On Monday golfer Jim Thorpe was released from prison where he had to go following his failure to pay proper income taxes. Jim Thorpe, however, was freed from the prison sentence on an early release. The Champions Tour golfer who had joined the more than 50 year old tour in 2000 was suspended from the sports event in 2010. He was sentenced to serve a prison service after he pleaded guilty for failing to pay a whopping amount of $1.6 million.

It has been almost near to one year since the 61 year old golfer had been suspended from the Champions Tour in February 2010 after he was accused of failing to pay his income tax. The financial matter got him into a legal hassle where charges were successfully proven against him that he had indeed failed to pay the taxes. The charges show that the ace golfer shunned away from paying income taxes for a period of almost two years ranging from 2002-2004. The golfer had accepted the alleged charges on him in the September of 2009 following which he was sentenced to jail for one year within a span of five months.

Even though he has managed to get an early release from prison, some sentences are still pending for him to be done. According to sources, he has a term of two years of supervised release and should also complete 200 hours of community service. No sooner did the golfer was released when he announced his plans of returning to the game as soon as he can. Mike Stevens, president of the Champions Tour has already said that they are also open in welcoming Jim Thorpe back.
