Munich, April 5 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Arsenal’s veteran goalkeeper Jens Lehmann has sued Werder Bremen’s Tim Wiese for suggesting that he has mental issues.

Lehmann who before rejoining Arsenal last month was a television commentator criticized the performance of Wiese during a Champions League game against Tottenham Hotspurs back in September. Wiese shot back later in the newspapers saying Lehmann belonged to the “Muppet Show”.

Weise was quoted in the same report also saying that, “The man(Lehmann) belongs on the couch. Perhaps that would help him. He should be committed - preferably locked up.”

Lehmann feels insulted and is demanding that a court should order Weise to pay him €20,000. A court in the German city of Munich is due to hear the case this week. Lehmann in his suit claimed that Weise’s comments in the newspapers violated his personal rights. Lehmann is not expected to appear in person during the hearing this week.

Jens Lehmann got another chance when the manager of Arsenal Arsene Wenger signed the German on a short contract to help address the team’s goalkeeping crisis. The move is seen as a gamble on the side of Wenger who is chasing his first silverware for the club since 2004.
