Jan 11, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Although the second ranker in the BCS standing, Oregon Ducks could not bag the final title in the BCS National Championship series, the team’s senior defensive back and now a receiver, Jeff Maehl definitely gave an outstanding performance amidst the other players of his team. All through out the year, his performance was remarkable.
Jeff Maehl tied with Samie Parker with his single season record of 77 receptions. He also gained the third highest yardage, of 1,076 yards, after yesterday’s match was concluded. Considering the entire year, including yesterday’s BCS National Championship game, Jeff Maehl made 12 touchdowns. He also caught 68 balls for a total of 943 yards. Even in yesterday’s match, perhaps his best contribution came when during a 2-point conversion, the receiver caught a pass in the end zone to tie the game at 19-19, while only 2:33 was left for the match to get over. However, after that Oregon Ducks could not increase its score, whereas, the Auburn Tigers, increased its score by three points to give the most crucial turn to the match. Just two days ago, Jeff Maehl said that the National Championship game is a symbol of state unity, and he would try his level best to combat the friction that would be offered by the Tigers in the BCS match at Glendale. He also added that they are huge rivals and therefore the Tigers would never like to see them win.
However, despite his defeat in the match, it was perhaps Jeff Maehl, who pulled up the Oregon spirit all throughout the match. His presence was considered as a challenge even by his biggest competitor, Ted Roof, the Auburn defensive coordinator. He warned his players saying that Jeff Maehl is a very good competitor and he does everything with full speed and rigor.
