Jeev tied seventh in China Open

Chengdu (China), April 21 (IANS) Jeev Milkha Singh shot seven birdies and an eagle in his six-under 66 in the first round of Volvo China Open Thursday.

The former Volvo China Open winner from 2006, Jeev was tied seventh and two shots off the leader, little known Korean Han Chang-won, who shot a 64.

Shiv Kapur, who struck four birdies, shot an error-free 68 and was tied 24th while SSP Chowrasia (70) was tied 58th on a perfect day for scoring.

Behind Han, a former Asian Amateur Champion, was Northern Ireland’s Gareth Maybin (65) and then there were five players including Jeev at 66.

“It was superb weather and one had to take advantage of the conditions,” said Jeev.

Jeev opened on the 10th had three birdies and one double bogey and turned in two-under. On the second nine, he eagled the first, and birdied the third, fifth, seventh and ninth. He dropped a shot on eighth.
