Jeev shoots 67, finishes seventh in Hong Kong
November 21st, 2010 - 7:26 pm ICT by IANSHong Kong, Nov 21 (IANS) Jeev Milkha Singh was tied at seventh place following a 67 in the $2.5 million showpiece sanctioned by the Asian Tour and European Tour.
Ryder Cup star Ian Poulter lived up to his promise of winning the title after a final round three-under-par 67 gave him a one-stroke victory Sunday.
India’s other two golfers in weekend action, Gaganjeet Bhullar (67) was 31st at eight-under and SSP Chowrasia (73) was tied 57th at two-under.
“I played really well again. And I rolled the putter well, too,” said Jeev.
“Just a few close misses, you know. I thought I made those putts, but did not go in. That’s what happens in this game but I’m pretty happy. It was a solid week for me. I shot 17-under, so no complaints.
“I had to finish top two to get into The Race to Dubai but did not do that, finished seventh. Looking forward to Japan next week and the Indian Open.
“I think I just need to work on my body. Everything else is good,” he added.
Poulter was rock solid on another glorious day at the Hong Kong Golf Club to hold off former champion and countryman Simon Dyson, who battled hard with a 65, and talented Italian teenager Matteo Manassero, who charged up the leaderboard with a sparkling 62.
American Anthony Kang enjoyed his best result in 18 months by finishing fourth, two back, after a 65 while US Open champion Graeme McDowell and Ryder Cup teammate Rory McIlroy failed to ignite an expected challenge on Poulter with a 68 and 67 to settle for fifth and sixth.
Poulter, who charged into contention with a blistering second round 60, said, “Yes, it feels more than good. Iwill be honest, the last two weeks I have been really disappointed (in Shanghai and Singapore finishing 13th and sixth). But I have played great all this week.”
Poulter is expected to return into the world’s top-10 with the victory here. He also got richer by $416,660 for his effort.
