February 1st, 2009 - 11:09 pm ICT by IANSDubai, Feb 1 (IANS) Jeev Milkha Singh playing 24 holes on the final day played a steady three-under 69 to finish tied 16th at the 20th Dubai Classic golf tournament Sunday. The Indian ace totalled 10-under 278 and for the second week running ended 16th — he ended in the same place at the Qatar Masters last week.
Jyoti Randhawa (72) ended in a tie for 44th place, while S.S.P. Chowrasia dropped late bogeys to finish with a 74 and ended in tie for 57th place.
Northern Ireland teenager Rory McIlroy held his nerve to win his first professional title by one stroke from Englishman Justin Rose.
Former Order of Merit winner Rose had a chance to force at least a play-off with a 15 foot birdie putt at the last but missed allowing McIlroy to roll home a four foot par putt.
The win elevates McIlroy to 14th in the world and makes him the seventh youngest winner in The European Tour’s history.
Dubai based Swede Henrik Stenson (67) finished third at 17 under, with Robert Karlsson (65), Martin Kaymer (67) and Paul Casey (68) a further shot adrift in fifth.
