Mohali, March 29 (IANS) Former Sri Lankan skipper Mahela Jayawardene will lead Kings XI Punjab in their Indian Premier League (IPL) T20 match against Mumbai Indians Tuesday.
“Mahela Jayawardene will be leading Kings XI Punjab for March 30, 2010 match against Mumbai Indians in the absence of Kumar Sangakkara,” said Arvinder Singh, senior vice president and head of cricket operations, Kings XI Punjab, in a statement issued here Monday evening.
Sangakkara was banned for one IPL match because of the team’s failure to maintain the rate of overs in the IPL.
He was also fined $50,000 while all other players were fined $20,000 each.
Kings XI Punjab is at the last place in the IPL with only one win in six matches so far.
Before the start of IPL-III season, Sangakkara replaced the team’s star player Yuvraj Singh as the captain.
