Srinagar, May 22 (IANS) Jammu and Kashmir police constable Ram Singh Thursday scaled the world’s highest peak Mt Everest, the police said here. “Constable Ram Singh today (Thursday) scaled the Mt Everest. He reached the summit at 6 a.m. and hoisted the national flag and the J&K (Jammu and Kashmir) police flag there,” Director General of Police (DGP) Kuldeep Khuda told reporters here.
Khuda said it was a rare honour for the state police as Singh had been selected after rigorous training as a member of Indian Mount Everest expedition.
“Besides fighting militancy and maintaining law and honour in the state, our boys are also winning laurels in sports and expeditions,” he said.
