Jamia wins Inter-Varsity Hockey
January 5th, 2011 - 8:22 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Jan 5 (IANS) Hosts Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) beat Punjab University 1-0 to win the North Zone men’s Inter-Varsity Hockey tournament here Wednesday. Devi Prasan scored the lone goal for the home team.
Kurukshetra University bagged the second place while Guru Nanak Dev University came third.
Zafar Iqbal, former hockey Olympian and Arjuna awardee, was the chief guest and S.M. Rashid, JMI pro vice-chancellor, presided over the ceremony at the hockey grounds.
Out of the 29 matches in the event, 23 were played at the knock-out stage and six were played in the league.
