Ivan Rodriguez Traded To The Rangers

Ivan RodriguezIvan Rodriguez was quite overwhelmed when he heard the news that he is being drafted back to his home team, Texas Rangers.

Rodriguez, the 14 time all star catcher whose career kick-started with Texas Rangers at a tender age of 19, was reportedly acquired on a trade in Tuesday with the Houston Astros for the minor league pitcher Matt Nevarez.

The trade seems to have brought a sigh of relief to Rodriguez, who persistently wanted to return back to his former club.

“It’s been a long time. I am glad that am back,” said an overwhelmed Rodriguez who had been a part of the Rangers from the year 1991 to 2002. The 37 year old pitcher reportedly signed a one year $1.5 million contract with the Astros in March. During his stint with the Astros, Rodriguez had hit 251 with 8 home runs and 34 runs batted in. Rodriguez played consistently well during his stint with his now former club, Astros by taking part in 93 of Houston’s 118 games. But the sheer display of poor performances had put Astros lagging behind in the Nation League play-off chase whereas the Rangers are tied with the Boston Red Sox for the wild-card race.

The trade off of Rodriguez has been warmly welcomed by his team mates and staffs, who believe that the player would provide a new dimension to the team. Moreover, Rodriguez is one of the most popular players in Rangers’ history, having won as many as 10 out of his 13 Gold Gloves for the team.
Rangers Manager Ron Washington said that Rodriguez would be backing up Taylor Teagarden, who rose to fame as a startling catcher after Saltalamacchia was drafted in the disabled list.
