It’s a game, not a war: Waqar on possible India-Pak semifinal
March 24th, 2011 - 1:09 am ICT by IANSDhaka, March 23 (IANS) With a mouth-watering World Cup semifinal clash between India and Pakistan a distinct possibility, Pakistan coach Waqar Younis Wednesday said it should be taken as a game and not a war.
“It is a game and not a war,” Younis told mediapersons here.
With Pakistan already through to the last four, the clash between the two arch rivals would depend on whether India manages to get past Australia in the second quarterfinal at Ahmedabad Thursday.
When reminded that Pakistan has had a poor World Cup record against India, he replied: “Everybody is beatable. Any team can play well on a given day.”
Asked about emotions back home, Waqar appealed to the people to pray for the team.
“Emotion is part of the game. In India there is more emotion. The nation (Pakistan) should pray for us and have confidence in the players.”
‘We don’t know yet whom we will play in the semifinal. We will watch tomorrow’s game closely,” he added.
