ITF shifts Davis Cup from Pakistan to Hong Kong over security concerns

Davis Cup Islamabad, Dec 23 (ANI): Pakistan has yet again missed out on hosting a Davis Cup tie after the International Tennis Federation (ITF) decided to change the venue owing to security concerns in the country.

The Asia Oceania Group II tie, scheduled for March 2011, would now be played in Hong Kong instead of Pakistan, said Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) Secretary General Mumtaz Yousaf.

“The ITF has shifted the tie to Hong Kong after the security officer Ian Todd was not satisfied with the security arrangements and feared for players’ safety,” the Daily Times quoted Yousaf, as saying.

In October, Todd had visited Lahore to assess the security arrangements. He visited different clubs and met various sports officials during the tour.

“It is hurting but we don’t have any other choice but to follow the ITF decision, which was based on Todd’s report,” said Yousaf. (ANI)
