It is a concern for us after two heavy losses: Cook
October 18th, 2011 - 1:02 am ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Oct 17 (IANS) England skipper Alastair Cook admitted that it was a “concern” for his team to lose heavily twice in a row after the visitors fell to an eight-wicket loss against India at the Ferozeshah Kotla here Monday.
India now lead the five-match ODI series 2-0 having posted a 126 run victory in the first match at Hyderbad Friday.
Cook, however, said he sees no reason why his team cannot bounce back in the remaining three ODIs.
“It is a concern for us after two heavy losses. But our preparation is good and we have the right players, who are in good nick. There is no reason why we cannot comeback in the series,” Cook said.
Cook said for his bowlers found difficult to break the 209-run stand for the third wicket between Gautam Gambhi (84 not out) and Kohli.
“We got a lot of 30s and 40s but we know that doesn’t win a game. Virat and Gambhir showed us how it’s done. Credit to the way they played. There was one half chance off Jade, but apart from that they gave us nothing. They were going strong. Our bowlers found it tough to stop them,” he said.
Cook said conditions played a crucial role part in his side’s defeats.
“Just as India struggled in England, we are struggling here. We have to take care of the basics to play well. Our players fell playing aggressive shots. We prepared well in the practice games, but we haven’t translated that to the main games. We need to score more runs, and our fielding wasn’t quite to standard.”
