Ireland elect to field against West Indies

Mohali, March 11 (IANS) Ireland won the toss and decided to field against West Indies in the World Cup Group B match at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium here Friday.

West Indies are without their star player Chris Gayle, who is suffering from an abdominal strain. Pacer Andre Russell has been picked as a replacement. For Ireland, injured paceman Trent Johnston will be replaced by Andre Botha.


Ireland: William Porterfield (captain), Paul Stirling, Ed Joyce, Niall O’Brien (wicketkeeper), Gary Wilson, Kevin O’Brien, Alex Cusack, Andre Botha, John Mooney, George Dockrell, Boyd Rankin.

West Indies: Darren Sammy (captain), Devon Smith, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Darren Bravo, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Kieron Pollard, Devon Thomas (wicket-keeper), Andre Russell, Nikita Miller, Sulieman Benn, Kemar Roach.
