Kolkata, Mar 10 (IANS) Former Australian coach John Buchanan today said the Twenty20 form of cricket and Indian Premier League (IPL) will help bring an evolution to world cricket. Buchanan, attached to the Kolkata Twenty20 team, landed in the city a day before Kolkata Knightriders’ boss Shah Rukh Khan arrives here. He said: “I am excited about the new assignment. It is a whole new experience from what I have done before. IPL will bring about an evolution if not a revolution to the world cricket.”

Asked about the game, he said, “From what I have seen in India, the game will be dominated by the batsmen. The pitches in India are batsmen friendly.”

Buchanan went to see the Eden Gardens Monday evening.

On whether the presence of ageing cricketers in the Kolkata team was a problem, he said: “Age is not a factor for me. Skill is. As long as a player has the skills and is fit to play, I have no problem.”

On Sourav Ganguly leading the side, he said: “Sourav (Ganguly) is a talented cricketer and a good captain. He is a fighter and a competitor. He has brought that competitive spirit to Indian cricket. He takes cricket very seriously. It would be a good experience working with him.”

Asked if it would be difficult to tackle Shoaib Akhtar, he said: “I don’t think it would be a problem. Sourav (Ganguly), Ricky (Ponting), Shoaib (Akhtar) have played international cricket for long and they know how to handle themselves.”

On whether he had any talks with either Ganguly or Shahrukh, he said: “I hope to meet them soon. Tuesday we may have a meeting.”
