IPL signs merchandising deal with Yog Sports
March 30th, 2010 - 9:36 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, March 30 (IANS) The Indian Premier League (IPL) Tuesday signed a major merchandising deal with Yog Sports, a marketing and distribution company.
As part of the 10-year exclusive deal, Yog Sports will be the IPL’s “Official Merchandise Distribution Partner”.
“Yog Sports has acquired exclusive rights to distribute branded merchandise of DLF-IPL and all eight teams across India for a 10-year period.
“Merchandise will include jerseys, T-shirts, caps, key chains, wrist bands, backpacks, gym bags, flags, trumpets, and other accessories, including those of the team’s official kit sponsors like Reebok, Adidas and Puma,” IPL said in a statement.
The company, which provides merchandise for sporting events, will be setting up exclusive ‘IPL Match Stores’ at stadiums, multiplexes, airports, railway stations, and ISBT’s, in addition to select malls, high streets, and IT parks.
“This year, Yog Sports is setting up 200 retail stores across 12 cities wherever the matches are being held. The company plans to scale up its operations taking its merchandise retail footprint to 1,000 stores by the 10th year.”
In addition, the company is also the exclusive supplier to the IPL online match store at www.iplt20.com.
IPL commissioner Lalit Modi said official merchandise is an integral part of any global sporting league as it helps enhance fans’ participation and team loyalties.
“With this deal, we have defined a collaborative strategy to ensure that IPL fans get access to authentic team merchandise at attractive prices. We will now work towards ensuring the highest quality standard for all IPL merchandise and through their robust distribution network will attempt to reach out to fans even outside the stadia and across India.”
Saumitra Srivastava, director, Yog Sports, said: “We aim to bring to IPL fans, the international merchandise experience, both in terms of quality, choice and value for money.”
