IPL begins with razzmatazz, fireworks

Bangalore, April 18 (IANS) The lucrative Indian Premier League (IPL) Twenty20 tournament began here Friday evening with a glitzy opening ceremony at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Well-known music composer Shankar Mahadevan regaled the audience with popular Hindi film song “Jhoom barabar…” and it was followed by lots of fancy fireworks. The first match of the 45-day tournament, between the Bangalore Royal Challengers and Kolkata Knight Riders, will follow the opening ceremony and introduction of all eight competing captains. The tournament will have 59 matches in all.
