New Delhi, June 16 (IANS) The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) Saturday sought a report from the All India Tennis Association (AITA) on the controversial selection of the men’s doubles team for the London Olympics.
IOA’s acting president Vijay Kumar Malhotra, in a letter to AITA chief Anil Khanna, said the prerogative of selecting the team was of the national sports federation but it needed the details of the selection.
“Our whole focus at the moment should be to send those players/teams which can be medal prospects and I strongly believe that we have a good chance of winning a medal in tennis,” said Malhotra.
He added: “Since the Olympics contingent is going under the IOA banner, I will appreciate if you could let me know the details of the selection.”
AITA Friday picked Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi for the doubles event at the London Games, leaving out Bhupathi’s current partner Rohan Bopanna.
Bhupathi-Bopanna had earlier told AITA that they would want to be paired for the Olympics as they play together on the ATP tour.
