IOA keen on Paes-Bhupathi patch-upMarch 14th, 2008 - 10:59 pm ICT by admin
New Delhi, March 14 (IANS) The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has extended a helping hand to the All India Tennis Association (AITA) to bring tennis stars Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi together in the run-up to the Beijing Olympics. AITA secretary-general Anil Khanna said Friday that he had an informal meeting with IOA secretary-general Randhir Singh and discussed with him issues confronting AITA. Both agreed that Leander Paes and Mahesh bhupathi should get together as early as possible and play in tournaments in an effort to improve their chances of winning a medal at the Beijing Olympics.
Khanna told IANS that Randhir had told him that he and IOA president Suresh Kalmadi would meet Paes and Bhupathi during the next month’s Davis Cup tie against Japan here in an effort to persuade them to play together in the interest of Indian tennis.
“I will have another meeting with Randhir and Kalmadi during the next month’s Davis Cup tie to sort out the issue. They are eager to meet Paes and Bhupathi.”
