Inzamam rubbishes allegations of masterminding players’ rebellion against Younis
June 27th, 2010 - 3:09 pm ICT by ANILahore, June 27 (ANI): Former Pakistan cricket captain Inzamam ul Haq has rubbished allegations that he provoked players last year to revolt against the then skipper Younis Khan.
“It is totally untrue that any players met at my home to take oath against Younis Khan’s captaincy,” The Daily Times quoted Inzamam, as saying.
A Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) probe into the team’s disastrous tour of Australia this year led to some players admitting that they had held meeting at Inzamam’s residence and vowed to force Younis to step down.
Younis had quit captaincy in November after the one-day series loss to New Zealand in the UAE, and made himself unavailable for the Australia tour.
He was then replaced by Mohammed Yousuf, who was one of the players believed to have revolted against Younis.
Inzamam also denied influencing Yousuf to take retirement from all forms of cricket after he was banned for an indefinite period by the PCB following Pakistan’s winless tour of Australia.
“I don’t think Yousuf’s decision to retire was correct and he didn’t consult me at all on this issue,” he said. (ANI)
