Intikhab prefers domestic cricket to dull paced camps for Pak teamNovember 1st, 2008 - 6:16 pm ICT by ANI
Islamabad, Nov 1 (ANI): Pakistans new cricket coach Intikhab Alam has said that playing top level domestic cricket is more important than dull paced camps.
He plans to prepare the national probables for the important Indian series following the same line.
Intikhab said that the forthcoming Test series against India would be an important one and there was no better way to prepare for the series than to put the probables into competitive cricket.
I would say there is no better way to prepare national team probables than to make them play every competitive match of the forthcoming Quaid-e-Azam Trophy. It is useless organising and arranging long duration camps when the top domestic competition is in progress, The News quoted him, as saying.
To a question on whether a long layoff from international cricket would be a disadvantage for Pakistan in the series against India, Intikhab said it would also have a positive side.
He admitted that Pakistan has played no Test cricket for almost a whole year now, but at the same time India have played too much cricket and must be feeling exhausted by the time they play the series against Pakistan starting at the turn of year.
To a question on his role as a coach and how it would be different from his predecessors, Intikhab said coaching is all about man management.
The former Pakistan captain said maintaining discipline and creating friendly and easy going atmosphere in the dressing room is also an important job of the coach.
The new Pakistan coach, who also played with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ijaz Butt, said that he had got all the support and backing from the top.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan team that is likely to be announced on November 3 and will assemble in Karachi on the 7th.
The team will have back to back meetings and fielding session before moving to Abu Dhabi for a short one-day series starting their from November 12, he said. (ANI)
