Gurgaon, June 19 (IANS) Top seed Ankita Bhambri’s run in $10,000 International Tennis Federation (ITF) tournament came to a disappointing end here Thursday when a stomach muscle pull forced her to withdraw from her quarter final match against Parija Maloo. Bhambri was leading 4-2 in the first set when she decided to pull out against the eighth-seeded Maloo at the National Tennis Academy (NTA) courts.
Maloo now faces younger Bhambri sibling, Sanaa who came from behind to prevail over sixth-seeded Parul Goswami, 1-6, 6-1, 6-2 to make a place in last four.
Chinese Chun-Yan He also retired midway through her match against seventh-seeded Korean Sung-hee Han due to an injury. Sung was leading 6-0, 3-0.
Han will next meet Poojashree Venkatesh, who continued her wonderful form in the tournament as she romped past Kumari-Sweta Solanki 6-3, 6-0.
