Injured Oram to undergo surgery next week
August 27th, 2010 - 4:25 pm ICT by ANIWellington, Aug 27 (ANI) New Zealand all rounder Jacob Oram will undergo surgery on his injured knee next week after an MRI scan revealed damage to his patellar tendon, which probably rules him out of the Champions League to be played in South Africa next month.
Oram, who had problems with the same knee before April’s ICC World Twenty20 in the Caribbean, hurt his knee during a practice session at Dambulla on August 24 during the ongoing ODI tri-series featuring India, Sri Lanka and New Zealand.
He had also injured his knee during July’s pre-tour camp in Darwin.
The medical staff will, however, review the progress of the thirty-two-year-old cricketer in the coming weeks to assess his availability for New Zealand selection.
“While I am gutted to miss the Champions League with the Stags, I’m thankful the medical specialist has found the problem now so we can get the right plans in place to get it right. I’ve been told that I should be realistically targeting the Pakistan homes series at the end of the year, but who knows, if surgery and rehab goes well I may be available for section before the Indian tour in November,” stuff.co.nz quoted Oram as saying in a press conference.
“These decisions will be made in consultation with the medical staff. It’s frustrating more than anything but I’ve been through this before and I’m confident I can return to the Black Caps injury free following a course of rehabilitation,” he added. (ANI)
