Turku, Mar 15 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The injured football star David Beckham is due for surgery either on late Monday, or on Tuesday. He is quite upset at the sudden turn of events that will bar him from playing the prestigious World Cup. However he took the injury in his stride and released a statement on his website, “I am upset but (want) to thank everyone for their messages of support. I hope to make a swift and full recovery.”
David Beckham was injured in an AC Milan versus Chievo Verona match. He tore his Achilles tendon, in the AC Milan’s 1-0 win over Chievo Verona, on Sunday. He subsequently left Turku, on a private jet for the Mehilaninen hospital, where he is expected to undergo surgery. Specialist surgeon Dr. Sakari Orava is due to operate on him, and he did reveal some details about the surgery, which is expected to last about an hour. David’s surgeon also said that he would take around 3-4 months to recuperate and then he would be able to indulge in some ‘light playing’.
“We have to wait for the results of the scan, but it looks like he is out of the World Cup,” England coach Fabio Capello said Monday. “David is a great professional and has worked very hard to be ready for the World Cup, so missing it will be a big blow.”
