New York, Aug 16, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Indiana Pacers draft pick Lance Stephenson has been taken into custody for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend. Authorities have revealed that the promising basketball player was detained by the cops on Sunday as he supposedly pushed his girlfriend down a flight of stairs after he was involved in a heated exchange with her. Soon after the incident, the woman was taken to a nearby medical facility where she received treatment for the injuries that she had sustained owing to the fall.

According to cops, the 19-year-old Indiana Pacers rookie was responsible for physically assaulting Jasmine Williams at her Brooklyn apartment on the wee hours of Sunday morning. After the player was taken into custody following the incident, charges of third degree assault has been levied against him and he is awaiting arraignment, as per the reports that have surfaced. However, intrinsic details about the circumstances which led to the ugly altercation between the couple has not been forthcoming and the violence showcased by Lance Stephenson has come as a shock to many people close to the player. Joe Packer, one of the youth league coach of the young player expressed shock at the manner in which things had unfolded between the pair as according to him ‘things seemed to be going so well’ in their relationship.

In the meanwhile, the Indiana Pacers have also responded to the charges levied against Lance Stephenson in a statement that has been released by the team president Larry Bird. The statement that was issued on Sunday night reads that the organization is “aware of a situation involving Lance Stephenson” and at the moment is in the process of gathering information about the player.
