Indian women’s team in final of Champions Challenge hockey
June 26th, 2009 - 10:25 pm ICT by IANSKazan (Russia), June 26 (IANS) The Indian women’s hockey team moved into the final of Champions Challenge II with a 2-1 victory over Ukraine here Friday.
Rani Rampal and Anjum Saba scored for India while Ukraine pulled one back through Nataliya Vasyukova.
India thus maintained their winning streak in the tournament. They had topped Pool A, winning all the three matches against Belgium, Belarus and Canada to qualify for the semifinal.
They showed their touch against Ukraine and opened the scoring in the 6th minute through a field goal from Rani.
Saba then made it 2-0, sounding the board in the 23rd minute.
Ukraine got a consolation goal in the 44th minute through Vasyukova.
India will meet the winners of the second semifinal between Ireland and Belgium.
