Indian women’s hockey team loses to Japan
March 19th, 2010 - 9:16 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, March 19 (IANS) The touring Indian women’s hockey team lost 0-3 to Japan in the first of the four-match Test series at the Gifu Green Stadium at Kakamigahara Friday.
After a blank first half, Japan struck with a field goal from Aaki Yamada in the 55th minute before Shiho Sakai flicked in twice from penalty corners in the 61st and 69th minutes.
Japan dominated the proceedings, earning seven penalty corners in the match while India could manage none.
The second Test will be played Sunday at the same venue.
The Indian team’s tour of Japan will be followed by a trip to China in preparation for the World Cup in Argentina from August 29.
