Indian Revenue beat ITC by six runs in Corporate Cup
September 3rd, 2009 - 1:53 am ICT by IANSMohali, Sep 3 (IANS) Indian Revenue beat ITC by six runs in a close match of the Sahara Corporate Cup tournament played at the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) stadium here Wednesday.
Indian Revenue skipper Amay Khurasia won the toss and elected to bat. His team managed to score 255 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 50 overs.
However, decision of batting first did not prove right as at one stage Indian Revenue lost four wickets for just 53 runs. But Avik Chowdhary and Amit Belaskar consolidated the innings with a 86-run partnership.
While Belaskar was caught out for 41, Chowdhary went on to hit a sparkling century and remained unbeaten on 110 from 158 balls.
Chowdhary, who studded his innings with nine fours and one towering six, was adjudged man-of-the-match. He got a trophy and a cheque of Rs. 50,000.
ITC remained weak on their bowling as they conceded 34 extra runs, including 20 wide-balls. Abid Khan (2/51) was the main wicket taker for ITC.
Playing under floodlights, ITC scored 249 runs for the loss of nine wickets in 50 overs. Mohit Sharma and Parvinder Singh were the highest scorers for ITC with 61 and 51 runs respectively.
With this win, Indian Revenue has been awarded four points.
Meanwhile BCCI has withdrawn its decision of rescheduling the first match of the tournament between Air India (Blue) and ITC that was called off due to bad weather conditions.
“The match was originally rescheduled for Sep 4. Today, we received a communication from BCCI that there was no provision of rescheduling. Now both teams would be awarded two points each,” said Sushil Kapoor, spokesperson of PCA .
Air India (Blue) will face Indian Revenue Thursday here at PCA.
