India win seven medals in Vovinam at Asian Indoor Games
November 3rd, 2009 - 8:44 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Nov 3 (IANS) The little-known Vietnamese martial art sport Vovinam has fetched India seven medals in the ongoing Asian Indoor Games at Hanoi, Vietnam.
The seven-member Indian Vovinam team won one gold, three silver and three bronze medals.
Pratiksha Santosh Shinde from Maharashtra was the star performer, winning one gold and three silver medals.
She won the team’s only gold in the single performance category.
Pratiksha, Rahul Kumar, Shashank Bajrang Kathade and Devrao Shankarrao Kapse got silver in the multiple attack technique.
In the dual sword form, Pratiksha and Akanksha Sahai got the country another silver medal.
Pratiksha’s third silver came in fights category.
The three bronze medals were cornered by Chongtham Mahadeva Singh and Deven Moirangthem, both from Manipur, in fights, and the team of Rahul, Devrao, Shashank Bajrang Kathade and Haobijam Kanta Singh in the men’s leg attack techniques.
“The team has performed exceptionally well in the tournament. They have given their best and bagged seven medals,” said President of Vovinam Association of India, Vishnu Sahai.
