India win second practice match in Portugal

New Delhi, July 11 (IANS) Indian football team continued their winning ways by defeating GD Gafanha 3-2 in their second practice match at Gafanha da Nazare in Portugal. It was a narrow win for the Indian team against GD Gafanha, a first division side of Aveiro League, at the Estadio da Gafanha Thursday night. Bungo Singh opened the score for India while Sunil Chhetri doubled the lead via penalty and Tarif Ahmed added the third to complete the tally.

The game was captain Baichung Bhutia’s last match of the tour. Baichung leaves for Munich Friday night to play in the ‘Goal 4 Africa’ charity match Saturday where he will rub shoulders with international stars like Kaka, Didier Drogba and Steven Gerrard to raise fund for African children.

The Indian team had beaten Gouveia Select 2-0 in their first match Saturday at Gouveia. India will again play Gouveia Select in their third practice match Sunday in the mountain city of Gouveia.

The 12-week tour to Portugal is a part of India’s preparation for the AFC Challenge Cup to held later this month in Hyderabad.
