clipboard018Dec.15, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The first ODI match being held in Rajkot in India has taken Team India on a roll. The Sri Lankan team decided to field first after winning the toss, which seems to have been a mistake on their part, since India has bludgeoned them for 414 runs in their 50 overs for just over 7 wickets.

With 156 runs, Virendra Sehwag and M.S.Dhoni’s partnership stood tall in just 16 overs whereas the second best partnership was close behind with 153 runs between the opening batsmen Sachin Tendulkar and Virendra Sehwag. Sehwag managed a mammoth score of 146 with six huge sixers and 17 boundaries, before being dismissed on Welegedara’s bowling. M.S.Dhoni scored a fast 72 before he was bowled out by Fernando, whereas Sachin Tendulkar managed a 69 off 63 balls. Even bowlers like Ravindra Jadeja seemed like they were in a rush to pitch in runs for their country by making 30 off 17 balls.

A smashing 43 boundaries were scored in total by the Indian team which was on fire and 12 over the fence sixers were pitched in by Ravindra Jadeja, Virendra Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar and M.S. Dhoni. The run rate, as per the statistics are a whooping 8.48 per over. Not even a single maiden over was bowled by even one of Sri Lanka’s veteran players.

The match could well be a milestone in the careers of the players as well as the history of Indian cricket. To win the match, the second inning will have to see a target of 415 being met by the Sri Lankan squad which includes, Kumar Sangakkara, Muttiah Muralitharan, Sanath Jayasuriya, Tillakaratne Dilshan and Mahela Jayawardene among others.
