viruNov 4, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Virender Sehwag produced another magical innings against New Zealand in the first test between the two sides to give India an almost unassailable advantage on Day 1. The series is a crucial one for both the sides as one (India) would want to continue the momentum of defeating Australia and the other would want to end the slump of a 4-0 thrashing in ODI by Bangladesh. New Zealand’s dreams of a good start to the campaign, however, was shattered by Delhi Daredevil Virender Sehwag. Playing like it was a T20 clash from the very start, the Indian opener milked the New Zealand bowlers like school kids in the first half of the day. The Kiwis looked to come back into the game after the dismissal of Gautam Gambhir but Rahul Dravid has ensured that the Indian middle order will be sitting in the pavilion for the rest of the day.

Virender Sehwag’s knock of 173 came from just 199 balls and at one point he also looked set to achieve the rare feat of scoring a century in the first session. Post Gautam Gambhir’s dismissal, Rahul Dravid played the perfect foil to the right-handed opener and continued to settle into his form. After lunch Virender Sehwag continued the onslaught of the New Zealand bowlers and Rahul Dravid continued his patient knock.

New Zealand skipper Daniel Vettori managed to put an end to the slaughter of his bowlers when he dismissed Virender Sehwag in the 75th over of the day. The batsman played a rather casual shot without much foot movement and the ball took inside due to the lack of spin and crashed into the middle stump.
